I'm working on my Mom's Windows 7 computer. I'm more of a Mac guy, so I am wondering if an error I encountered is significant.

Here is the sequence of events that led up to this:

My Dad (who seems to always want to be directly involved in computer maintenance even though he doesn't know anything) thought there was some need to move my Mom's files off the computer before bringing it to the repair shop. So he moved many things (not everything) from \Users\Mom to somewhere else, but he doesn't remember all the steps he followed … he moved or copied them two or three times.

When I got involved, it seemed that most of the files had ended up on another computer on the local network, at a folder I will abbreviate as \FinalFolder. This folder contained hundreds of documents in the root, along with a folder "My Documents"
